Joan Branson death: Sir Richard Branson’s wife cause of death revealed in pre-inquest hearing

    -

The cause of death of Sir Richard Branson‘s late wife, Joan Templeman, has been revealed six months after her passing.

Lady Joan Sarah Templeman Branson, 80, died on November 24 last year, with the Virgin boss sharing the heartbreaking news on social media, but he gave no more details.

A pre-inquest hearing has found that she died from a blood clot, which stemmed from complications from a fall-induced back injury sustained two weeks earlier, according to The Mirror.

Sir Richard and Joan’s daughter Holly, 44, was at the hearing and said the family was not looking to blame anyone for her death.

“I believe mum had great care. The doctors saved her life three years ago, giving us all three more years together,” she said at the hearing at Inner West London Coroners’ Court, per the outlet.

“We just want to help other families if there are any lessons to be learned.”

An inquest will be held later this year to look at whether she should have been prescribed blood thinners, and if she was wearing anti-clot stockings at the time of her death.

Sir Richard announced his wife’s death in an emotional Instagram post in late November last year.

“Heartbroken to share that Joan, my wife and partner for 50 years, has passed away,” the post started.

“She was the most wonderful mum and grandmum our kids and grandkids could have ever wished for.

“She was my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world.

    “Love you forever, Joan x.”

On January 1 he shared that they had farewelled Joan on Necker Island, holding a memorial celebration of her life on the private island in the Caribbean.

“My family and I have always believed in celebrating people’s lives, while they are with us and after they are gone,” the British billionaire captioned the post.

“There were stories, songs, laughter, and tears, all in honour of the most incredible partner, mum, grandmother, and friend.”

The couple married in 1989 and were together for almost 50 years before her death.

They shared three children: Holly, Sam, 41, and Clare, who tragically died four days after being born.
