Unfortunately, all it took was a few tweets to completely dismantle their friendship. In July 2015, Meek went on an unhinged Twitter rant where he accused Drake of using a ghostwriter for their collaboration, “R.I.C.O.” That’s the #1 faux pas in hip-hop, especially when gunning for the GOAT title.
With his back against the wall, Drake overcame adversity with the release of “Charged Up” and, of course, “Back To Back,” the first diss song to ever earn a Grammy nomination. Drake not only dominated the summer with “Back To Back” but effectively turned the court of public opinion against Meek Mill, and it took a while for Meek to recover.
The two eventually made up, though. While Meek Mill was behind bars after being handed down an outrageous 2-4 year sentence for probation violation, Drake made it clear that he was willing to put their feud behind them. He gave Meek a shout-out on tour, calling for his freedom. Upon Meek’s release, the two reunited and delivered another banger with “Going Bad,” which certainly felt like an appropriate way to end years of tension.
