Before the 2024 season, no one was sure whether or not Oregon receiver Traeshon Holden had a future in the NFL. To his credit and the Ducks’ fortune, Holden put together a career season that resulted in him being able to continue his career, signing as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday.
In Dallas, Holden will reunite with former Oregon WR coach Junior Adams.
Holden finished the 2024 season with career highs in receptions (45), reception yards (718) and five touchdowns. For his efforts, he was a Big Ten honorable mention. In his two seasons as a Duck, Holden had 82 catches for 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns. In his first year in Eugene, Holden had to work hard for his touches in the WR rotations, but in 2024, he saw the field a lot more, and he made the most out of his opportunities.
Those opportunities just didn’t come at Alabama, his one other stop. He went to Tuscaloosa as a four-star recruit and a Top 300 player. At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, he looked like a prototypical Crimson Tide receiver, but for whatever reason, things just didn’t pan out under Nick Saban. In his three seasons that included that funky 2020 season that didn’t count towards anyone’s eligibility, Holden had just 46 catches for 570 yards and seven touchdowns.
With his new team, the Cowboys, Holden is going to have to work hard in camp and get the most out of his talents in Dallas. He might be a receiver that follows in the Troy Franklin mold, where he takes the season to get used to his surroundings, but by the time the end of the year comes around, he’s a productive member of the Cowboys receiving unit.
