Hall of Fame legend can’t understand why nobody can beat Oleksandr Usyk: “I’d figure him out”

    -

Oleksandr Usyk has never tasted defeat in his illustrious professional career but one former world heavyweight champion believes he’d have been more than capable of inflicting a loss on the record of the Ukrainian.

Usyk is viewed as one of the best pound-for-pound stars in the world, having conquered the cruiserweight division and becoming undisputed, before moving up to the banner division and achieving that same feat on two occasions at heavyweight.

It is in that weight class where the 39-year-old has claimed notable victories over Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, all twice, and he is currently in possession of the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles.

As the debate rages on over who Usyk will step into the ring with next, former heavyweight king Lennox Lewis has offered his thoughts on the unified champion in a resurfaced video, insisting that he knows what is needed in order to overcome the Ukrainian.

“I wish I was in this era because I would have loved to have boxed him. I can’t see why nobody can’t figure him out, I would have figured him out.”

Before Usyk claimed undisputed heavyweight status in 2024, Lewis was the last man to earn that honour, following his victory over Evander Holyfield in November 1999.

Lewis was a three-time world heavyweight champion, also securing wins over the likes of Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko on his way to defeating every man he ever faced in his career.

While Lewis is confident he would have defeated Usyk himself, he has also revealed how he thinks the Ukrainian would have fared against the other stars from his era.
