Drake Maye takes accountability for high sack total this season

    -

FOXBOROUGH — New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has had an impressive second season in the NFL, providing that he is just getting started.

However, Maye took a moment on Wednesday to highlight one area of his play that has struggled at times, referencing his high sack total. And with that, he made it clear that the blame should not be placed on his offensive line, crediting them with picking up the blitzes this season.

“I think those guys, speaking about the offensive line, have done a great job all year,” Maye said. “A lot of the sacks I have taken have been my fault, have been me holding the football. I want to credit those guys with what they’ve done.”

According to PFF, Maye is responsible for the second-most sacks of his own, with only Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart ahead of him. He has also taken the second most sacks at 34.

So how can he work to improve that after seeing it on film?

“Just like anything else, try to work on it in practice and try to simulate drills or be really good when we’re on our team periods of trying to avoid it, and from there, don’t make it too big of a deal because I think sometimes we’re still making plays when I do try to extend plays,” said Maye.
