CFP rankings spark debate over Texas A&M’s No. 3 placement

    -

There is about a month left in the college football regular season, and with the initial CFP ranking being released on Tuesday night, the discussions have begun. It’s not that surprising that the No. 3-ranked Texas A&M Aggies came in as the No. 3 team in the playoff rankings. However, not everyone felt the same way.

During the coverage of the rankings show, Booger McFarland, Rece Davis, and Joey Galloway discussed where they believed A&M should have been ranked. There was a strong argument that, based on the analytics, Texas A&M should have been ranked No. 1. That evolved into a discussion on how much the eyeball test factored into the ranking decision. Texas A&M’s win over Notre Dame early in the season looks better and better for them each week, but it’s also the only win over a current Top 25 team.

A win over No. 19 Missouri could help, but it would also knock them out of the Top 25. So, while it would be a quality win, it would not count as a ranked win. In reality, while these rankings are fun to debate, there is still way too much football left to determine who will be the final team in the CFP and where they will rank. Coach Mike Elko has only one thing in mind right now. To win each week and let the rest take care of itself.
