Audley Harrison delivers honest verdict on Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: “He only has one way to win”

    -

Audley Harrison has considered how fellow Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua will fare against Tyson Fury later this year.

The pair have agreed to collide in a long-awaited heavyweight showdown, but only if ‘AJ’ successfully comes through his next outing against Kristian Prenga.

Having not fought since his sixth-round finish over Jake Paul in December, Joshua is now gearing up to face Prenga in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 25.

This represents his first assignment since losing two of his closest friends to a car crash in Nigeria, where he too was involved in the tragic incident.

Naturally, the following few months were spent recovering from his injuries, though Joshua now appears to be inching closer towards finally squaring off with Fury.

‘The Gypsy King’, meanwhile, has already completed a tune-up fight by ending a 16-month layoff against Arslanbek Makhmudov, who he unanimously outpointed last month.

Shortly after emerging triumphant, Fury called out Joshua, who remained seated at ringside while refusing to engage in a face-off.

At the same time, though, Harrison has told Sky Sports that he saw a fire in the 36-year-old’s eyes, bright enough to suggest he is ready for the task ahead.

“From a boxing point of view, it’s a sexy fight. Because styles make fights.

“[Joshua] can’t win the fight trying to box Fury – he has to go in there, break him up and try to take him out. That’s the only way he’s going to win this fight.

“You’re fighting a master boxer who knows how to slip [and] slide. After the [Makhmudov] fight… he [Joshua] looked at Fury [with intent].

“When they go in that fight, he’s going to take that fire – all that he’s been through with the death of his friends.”

Despite returning to the win column after suffering back-to-back defeats against Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, Fury is seemingly looking to enter a second warm-up fight.

Whether this materialises, it remains to be seen, but surely he would not be willing to risk a potential clash with Joshua.
