Robert, the aptly named wildlife warrior, and son of the late Steve Irwin, had placed a video on the internet, and, oddly enough, a thousand and one things were going through the minds of internet watchers: concurrent fascination and fear. The footage had been taken in an isolated area at Cape York, Australia, and showed Irwin having an enjoyable time with a Great One-a golden orb spider. And big; that thing might just bench-press my little dog!

The said video shows Irwin in the casual act of holding his hand right beside that spider as opposed to giving the spider even a shred of chance to win; the spider did win. He continues to say, “the females are much larger than the males; they have huge abdomens and build webs that are strong enough to snare birds. Birds! Not just any common fait: housefly.” The guy is cool about it, calling it “so cool” whilst the rest of us would have been halfway to another continent.
The real entertainment was not just watching the spider; this was completed by the reactions. People were dying in the comments section; one confessed that he would have “literally kms if I saw this.” Another said, “Would you like to buy your soul back?” as this is seeming like a fair deal now.
Some went reflective, commenting about how much Robert looked like his dad. Another said, “Your dad would be so proud of the man you’ve become,” while someone else said, “Every time I see your face, I think about your dad.” True enough, Robert possesses the same boundless enthusiasm for wildlife that made Steve Irwin a household name.

Then, there were those who just flatly withdrew from the conversation. “Very brave Robert! But I added Australia to my ‘not going there’ list,” one said. Another just said, “Ah yes, that’s a giant f that.” You can’t argue with logic.
Some brave souls shared their own spider tales, one recounting walking into a golden orb web just as a thunk off the ground signaled the spider getting wrapped in sticky silk. Nightmare fuel? Definitely.
The legendary Robert ended the video by saying, “Alright, have a good night,” as though the guy didn’t just unleash on the world the latest sleep paralysis demon of Australia.
The golden orb spider could be daunting, but it’s Robert Irwin’s fearless wildlife education that endears him to so many. Whether making us laugh, cry, or reconsider any thoughts about Australia should suffice to show that he’s really doing his dad proud.

If that still has failed to convince you of just how huge the spider is, just try to imagine this: the spider’s web would probably hold a trampoline big enough for two! Good night! Good night!
