Real reason Love on the Spectrum favourites Abbey and David broke up

    -

Love on the Spectrum star Abbey Romeo’s mum Christine revealed why her daughter split from partner of five years David Isaacman, putting an end to weeks of speculation.

In early April it was reported that Abbey and David, one of the reality show’s most beloved couples, broke up over conflicting timelines around marriage.

In a YouTube video filmed with Abbey’s cousin Mary, Christine said confirmed there was no dramatic fallout between the couple.

”There was no fight over engagements and rings being thrown around,” Christine said. “I think people are missing the point on Abbey and David.”

She added the pair realised they wanted different things out of life.

“David was happy in his way of doing life,” she said. “And Abbey’s was different. And they found that out over this period of time.”

Abbey and David’s breakup came as a surprise to the show’s loyal fanbase, who had pegged the couple as the pair with the strongest connection on the reality series.

Christine said the relationship, which lasted four and a half years, was still a great experience for her daughter.

“I’m grateful for the time they had. It was a fabulous relationship,” she added.

“For anybody, a five-year relationship is a successful relationship. You learn so much, you grow so much.”

She also gave some context to the show’s timeline, saying that the most recent season was filmed a year ago.

“Just remember that things are not happening in the chronological order that you might think,” she said.

Christine got candid, adding her daughter’s wanting to get married was misunderstood.

“Abbey would say she wanted to get married, which really meant, ‘I want to feel like a normal person in the world and do what they do in their relationships,'” she said.

“It was almost like having a party, not the idea of moving in together.”

Christine also called for understanding, and for people not to judge the way her daughter or any other people on the spectrum experience dating.

”Please don’t judge autistic relationships as if they were typical,” she said. “So many people on the spectrum are not going to do what typical people do.”

News first broke that the pair had split via the US Sun, with a source close to David confirming the split rumours.

”Sadly, it’s true that David and Abbey broke up,” a source told the publication.

“They couldn’t come to an agreement on when to get married. She was ready years ago, he still needed time.”

While the pair are broken up, the source said David is “doing very well.”

In the latest season of the show, Abbey revealed she was “taking her time” to get married because she didn’t want to end up divorced.

“I don’t want to be a divorced lady like my mum, so that’s why I don’t want to rush it, take my time to get married,” she said.

When the couple learned their Love on the Spectrum castmates Madison Marilla and Tyler White had gotten engaged, Abbey said, “Hopefully we’re next!”

Abbey and David were the show’s most loved and longest-lasting couple.

Fans were convinced the pair would be the next to head to the altar after Marilla and White got engaged at the end of season 4.

Love on the Spectrum has a reputation for being the most wholesome show on TV.

The documentary series started in Australia in 2019, before Netflix picked up the series and moved it to the US, airing the US version on the streaming platform in 2022.

Love on the Spectrum follows people on the spectrum as they navigate the complexities of dating and search for romantic connections.
