After years spent shaping the sound of contemporary pop from behind the scenes, MNEK is stepping back into the spotlight.
The South London singer, songwriter and producer has announced his long-awaited second LP, ‘BULLDOZER!!’, alongside the release of its first single, ‘REVERSE!!’ – a swaggering, club-ready statement that marks the beginning of his first full album campaign since 2018’s ‘Language’.
The record is due later this year and has been described by MNEK as his “most certain piece of work” to date.
Built from the DNA of UK underground club culture and early-2000s R&B, ‘REVERSE!!’ finds MNEK reconnecting with the sounds that informed his musical upbringing. The singer has described the track as a playful, “up-tempo club record” that has already been tested on dance-floors over recent months, where its reception helped confirm the direction of this new era.
The accompanying video, directed by Douglas Reddan (Say Now), doubles down on the track’s kinetic energy, placing MNEK centre-stage in a shadowy underground car park as body-popping dancers and classic sports cars move around him in sync with the song’s club-ready pulse.

With ‘REVERSE!!’ already generating widespread buzz across social media, the arrival of ‘BULLDOZER!!’ feels significant for reasons that extend far beyond the launch of a new album cycle.
For more than a decade, MNEK has steadily become one of the most influential figures in British pop. His fingerprints are all over the modern chart landscape, whether through songwriting and production work for artists including Beyoncé, Zara Larsson, Little Mix, FLO, Jax Jones and David Guetta, or through his own catalogue of club-pop records that helped expand mainstream perceptions of what British pop could sound like.
In many ways, MNEK’s career mirrors the evolution of UK pop itself. Emerging from a generation shaped equally by R&B, garage, grime and electronic music, he has consistently blurred genre boundaries while championing Black British musical traditions. Long before the current resurgence of UK club sounds across global pop, MNEK was incorporating those influences into records that felt both commercially accessible and culturally specific.
His impact extends beyond production credits. As one of the most visible openly gay Black men working at the highest levels of pop music, MNEK has become an important figure for representation within an industry that has not always offered space to artists occupying multiple marginalised identities. Through initiatives supporting LGBTQ+ songwriters and through his own music, he has repeatedly challenged assumptions about who gets to exist within traditionally masculine spaces such as grime, garage and club culture.
That theme appears to continue throughout ‘BULLDOZER!!’. Speaking about ‘REVERSE!!’, MNEK has framed the song as part of a broader exploration of UK dance music’s heritage, while simultaneously queering and reimagining some of its conventions. In recent interviews, he has spoken about bringing “flair” into spaces often perceived as hyper-masculine, drawing on the grime and garage culture that surrounded him growing up in South London.
The timing feels particularly apt. British pop is increasingly looking inward, rediscovering local club sounds after years dominated by international trends. Artists across the spectrum are embracing garage, house, jungle and grime influences, creating a landscape that feels uniquely suited to MNEK’s return. Few artists are better positioned to bridge the gap between underground culture and mainstream success.
If ‘Language’ introduced MNEK as a formidable solo artist in his own right, ‘BULLDOZER!!’ arrives with the weight of an already-established legacy behind it. Since his debut album, he has accumulated GRAMMY and BRIT recognition, continued to write global hits and cemented his reputation as one of Britain’s most dependable pop architects.
Now, with ‘REVERSE!!’, he appears ready to remind audiences that the architect can still be the headline act.
‘BULLDOZER!!’ is set for release later this year, with MNEK scheduled to debut material from the project at a string of Pride and festival appearances throughout the summer. Download / stream ‘Reverse’ here
