Carmelo Anthony and his son, Kiyan Anthony, attended the premiere of Born Melo during the 2026 Tribeca Festival in New York City on June 12.

Born Melo examines Carmelo Anthony’s basketball career while also documenting Kiyan’s first season at Syracuse University.

Through exclusive interviews and previously unseen footage, Born Melo follows Anthony’s rise from Baltimore to the NBA, and revisits key moments from his career, including his championship season at Syracuse University and his 19-year NBA career.

The film also highlights Kiyan’s first year of college basketball after arriving at Syracuse in the fall of 2025. As a member of the Class of 2029, he entered the same program where his father became a national champion more than two decades earlier.

For Anthony, including his son in the documentary was an important part of telling his story.

“For me, I couldn’t play 19 years in the NBA without him being part of the story, so that’s why this documentary is special. You can see the way we shot it. The special cinematography was phenomenal. My mom, Wolf, my brother, Kenny, Bay, my son, anybody who was in the documentary, it just fit to the way that we wanted to tell the story. So I just wanna say thank you for that, and it is a dope-ass documentary,” Anthony said.

Kiyan also shared what he hopes viewers take away from the project.

“With my dad, I think he’s widely regarded as solely a basketball player,” he said in an interview with Jamir Smith. “For everybody else to get a real look into his life, I feel like that’s a big part of why he made this film.”

As for his own future, Kiyan said he is focused on supporting his father.

“Just being able to show love to him any way I can and collaborate, you know, father-son duo, that’s super lit.”
