This new single from Lorde titled What Was That comes out this Friday, and the news has stirred the Twitterverse, where some people are rejoicing over her comeback, while others are perplexed over the strange promotional image.

In this particular shot, Lorde is seen having some kind of mysterious liquid smeared over her face, and the reactions poured across all dimensions. Straightforwardly, one of the commenters opined, “Wtf is this pic?,” with another asking, “What’s the mystery liquid?” The photographic style drew some ire as well, with one commenting that it was an “odd choice.” But then again, maybe that’s what Lorde wanted all along?
There were still some who shouted at the top of their lungs, “SHE’S COMING TO SAVE US,” while others shouted, “WE WILL BE LISTENING!” For real, speechless one mentioned, ‘Lorde always delivers something unique; looking forward to this new single!’
But as the internet would have it, some do hate it. “Coming to tank like her facecard,” sneered one comment. Another chimed in, “She’s been fell off.” Ouch. Boldly speaking, one went, “I say for everyone, nobody is going to stream.” Harsh but too bad; maybe not everyone has good taste.
Rumored to be the leading single from her fourth studio album, this could catapult a new era. A fan noted, “Lorde’s return with ‘What Was That’ feels like the start of a bold new chapter; the snippet already hints at something raw and reflective.”
Many others, however, were just confused over the timing. “Wasn’t it released yet?” queried one. Other jokesters were given a shot at the song title: “What was it??”, one said; sarcastically, “What was it,” rolled in alongside a shrug emoji.
Love it, or hate it; Lorde’s newly announced single has made ripples. Either way, people are talking- a sure parameter for either a major hit or a faux pas; and for a good reason; that’s three-quarters of your fight in the industry.
