Former reality star Teddi Mellencamp revealed that her skin cancer has reached Stage 4 after doctors found tumors on her lungs and brain that required surgical intervention earlier this year.
Mellencamp, who once starred on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” told fans in February that she needed emergency brain surgery after scans uncovered multiple tumors on her brain. She later explained that the melanoma she was diagnosed with in 2022 had metastasized and two tumors were also found on her lungs.
In a new interview with Us Weekly published Wednesday, Mellencamp said she was getting radiation and immunotherapy treatment. Her medical team would “find out for sure exactly where we stand on June 1.”
Two days after the interview, the magazine reported that four more tumors were found during an emergency scan and that Mellencamp’s treatment would change.
Mellencamp said in her interview that she was looking forward to being able to “get back to normal.”
“I want to try new things, travel more with the kids, keep building a life and doing the best that we can, and have fun together,” she said. “That’s my goal.”
The former reality star also shared that her father, singer John Mellencamp, calls to check in every day and that the pair have gotten closer since her emergency procedure.
“I was not expecting my entire family to be out here within 24 hours, but by the time I was out of surgery, everybody was there,” she said. “My dad hates L.A., so the fact that he was out here for 18 days — wow. That says a lot.”
Mellencamp had been doing ongoing treatment for her skin cancer and had her 16th melanoma spot removed in September, according to People.
She left the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” after being on for three seasons, though she says she has remained close to multiple cast members. Mellencamp credited “RHOBH” star Kyle Richards for helping her get seen at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center when she was experiencing debilitating headaches.
Richards has been there for her “nonstop,” Mellencamp told Us Weekly. She also noted that her family is in therapy to help process her medical struggles.
Her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, has moved back in to their home to help care for their children, Mellencamp shared.
“And I’m really lucky that Edwin, who I was in the middle of a divorce from, we put everything on hold … That’s made things a lot easier,” she said.
