Manmohan Singh Diet: The nation is mourning the loss of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who died due to age-related health issues. He was 92. Dr Singh, an acclaimed economist and statesman, died on December 26, 2024, following a sudden loss of consciousness at his Delhi residence, according to AIIMS. Known for his humility, wisdom, and leadership, Dr Singh leaves behind a legacy of dedication to the nation’s progress and well-being.
A man of simplicity, Dr Singh extended his pragmatic approach to his diet as well. In an earlier conversation with NDTV, he expressed his preference for vegetarian food, explaining, “I normally don’t eat meat. I am a vegetarian at home. I am not imposing a moral code of vegetarianism vs. non-vegetarianism. I think we must make intelligent choices.”
Dr Singh also emphasized the health benefits of plant-based eating, stating, “Medical science is now coming to the conclusion that a vegetarian diet is superior to diets laced with meats for maintaining one’s health.” However, his adherence to vegetarianism was not without exceptions. During a 2011 trip to Bangladesh, Dr Singh famously expressed his willingness to try Hilsa fish, a Bengali delicacy renowned in the region. “I am willing to break my vegetarian vow because I have heard about the delicious dish of Hilsa fish. So, I am willing to make that exception,” he told a news agency.
Dr Singh is survived by his wife, Gurcharan Singh, and their three daughters, who, like the rest of the nation, mourn the loss of a towering figure in Indian politics and public life.
