There are no participation trophies or silver linings in big-time college football, especially in the Big Ten. The Iowa Hawkeyes let a game slip away against the Indiana Hoosiers that they feel they should have won.
Iowa played well, but made too many mistakes down the stretch and didn’t capitalize on the big plays that could have swayed this game, and it ultimately saw them drop to 3-2 after a 20-15 defeat that puts them at 1-1 in Big Ten play.
With the loss, Iowa has some soul-searching to do during its bye week, but it isn’t being punished too hard as it had the Hoosiers on the ropes in the final minutes of this game.
In the weekly USA TODAY Sports Re-Rank, Iowa is being treated fairly this week with just a one-spot slide down to No. 38 after the loss.
The Hawkeyes are currently sitting among a group of G5 College Football Playoff contenders in the rankings, as they are behind No. 36 Navy and just ahead of No. 39 North Texas.
Up next for the Iowa Hawkeyes is a matchup on Saturday, October 11, on the road against the Wisconsin Badgers, who are currently 2-2 and sit at No. 78 in USA TODAY Sports’ Re-Rank this week.
