The North Carolina Tar Heels were bounced early from the ACC Tournament, losing to Clemson in the quarterfinals in Charlotte.
In the loss, the same struggles that North Carolina has had this season popped up again. Clemson was the more physical team and it caused North Carolina to miss shots, play poorly on offense and struggle overall. The Tigers built an 18-point lead before UNC was able to rally and fell 80-79.

While North Carolina made it close at the end, the overall performance wasn’t good. And it’s something that has been a bugaboo for Hubert Davis as he dropped another Quad 1 game. In five years of Davis as the coach, the Tar Heels are now 26-42 in Quad 1 games.
Here’s how it breaks down via Taylor Vippolis:
That’s not very good. The one year UNC had a winning record in Quad 1 games was when they had a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and fell to Alabama in the Sweet 16. Davis’ record in these big games hasn’t been very good.
Also in that span, North Carolina missed the tournament and was on the bubble as a first four team as well. Now, they did get to a title game but that was in 2021-22. Since then, there have been a lot of struggles.
