Terence Crawford Trainer ‘BoMac’ on Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia 2: “It’s different”

    -

Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre has highlighted a major difference between Ryan Garcia’s first fight with Devin Haney and their possible rematch, questioning whether it would affect his performance.

The pair squared off back in April 2024, with Garcia weighing 3lbs above the super-lightweight limit before flooring his man three times to claim a majority decision victory.

Soon enough, though, the result was overturned to a no-contest after it emerged that ‘King Ry’ had tested positive for ostarine, a performance-enhancing drug, for which he was handed a year-long ban.

Returning from his suspension, the American then suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Rolando Romero, who was later upgraded from ‘regular’ to full WBA world welterweight champion.

But despite being dealt a second professional loss, Garcia was nonetheless presented with a world title opportunity against Mario Barrios, who he outpointed and dethroned to claim the WBC welterweight strap last month.

Haney, too, has become a world champion since their first encounter, as a dominant performance saw him outpoint Brian Norman Jr for the WBO title in November.

As for a potential rematch between the pair, coach ‘BoMac’ has told Fight Hub TV that Garcia, without PEDs in his system, may not have the same success against Haney.

“I think [it’ll be] a little different because that drug testing is gonna be enforced. So will [Garcia] have that stab? Will he have that quickness and power?

“That must be seen. If he don’t, Devin gonna wear his ass out.”

While Haney has previously expressed his interest in a rematch with Garcia, it would appear the three-division world champion is instead set to face Romero on May 30.

Romero has said he is likely to collide with ‘The Dream’ at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, while there is no news as to who Garica will face in his next outing.
