Since the end of the regular season, we’ve gone through three phases with the Pittsburgh Steelers in relation to the 2025 NFL draft. First up, it was a foregone conclusion the Steelers were going to draft a wide receiver. Specifically, it was going to be Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka.
However, just before the start of free agency, the Steelers pulled off a huge trade with the Seattle Seahawks to bring in wide receiver DK Metcalf and this changed up the plan. Phase two was a free-for-all. There was no consensus about the position at all with some going cornerback, some going defensive tackle and others going running back.
Now, the draft is less than two weeks away and with Aaron Rodgers still unsigned, all eyes are on the quarterbacks. There are three names being tossed around an all have their pluses and minuses.
First up let’s talk about Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. The supreme athlete at the position in this draft, Milroe has the highest ceiling of any quarterback in this draft. If his career trajectory is handled properly, he might be the next Lamar Jackson. And there is no concern about Milroe not being on the board at pick No. 21.
Next we have Ole Miss signal caller Jaxson Dart. Another guy with a live arm and great speed but doesn’t offer the same level of threat to run Milroe does. The trade off is he’s a much more polished passer and decision-maker with the football. It’s 50/50 at this point if Dart would need a trade up to get.
Finally, we have Shedeur Sanders from the University of Colorado. Maybe the most starter-ready of the three but doesn’t offer much as a dual threat and doesn’t work as well off script as Dart of Milroe. But if the Steelers want Sanders, it’s going to take a trade up and potentially a big one.
This is why we would go with Dart first at No. 21, then maybe trade back a bit for Milroe but only go for Sanders if he falls all the way into the second half of the round.
