St. John’s is the back-to-back Big East champion after picking up a dominant win in the tournament final over UConn. And while the Red Storm looked strong in the 72-52 win, it was an impressive collapse from the Huskies that gave them the victory.
St. John’s went on a 10-0 run to open the game, going up by as many as 17 points in the first half. The Huskies came out of the locker room with a lot more vigor, pulling back within seven points behind a hot start to the second half.

But that momentum slipped away, as the Red Storm pulled back to a dominant lead — and the Huskies began to fall further and further down. In one particularly futile sequence, UConn missed four scoring chances in a row, unable to capitalize on some otherwise solid rebounding.
The Huskies then went on to miss their next nine field goal attempts, completely failing to score from the field in the final eight minutes of the game. UConn went one-of-15 in the final shooting attempts of the game, with their only points of the last nine points coming off of three free throws.
UConn head coach Dan Hurley picked up an early tech after exchanging words with the officials just seven and a half minutes into the game.
But while the famously hotheaded coach went on to keep his cool throughout the rest of the game, it didn’t keep his team from falling apart.
