The experts at Caesars Sportsbook are not high on Michigan State basketball repeating as the Big Ten champs next season.
The Spartans are listed as quite the longshot to win the Big Ten championship next season on Caesars Sportsbook. Michigan State is listed at +2500 — which ranks as the No. 9 team in the league.
Michigan State is notably behind Ohio State at +525, Illinois at +1200, USC at +1500, Oregon at +1800 and Wisconsin at +2000. Those, of course, are all teams Michigan State beat last year except USC, and teams I personally would consider on the same playing level as the Spartans.
To no surprise, Purdue was listed as the favorite at +180. Right behind the Boilermakers was rival Michigan at +370.
Michigan State certainly is losing a lot off this last year’s team and I would anticipate a step back like the oddsmakers are suggesting. But I was surprised to see them that low down the chart of teams.
