Should the Seattle Seahawks draft Cam Skattebo?

    -

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider recently confirmed the team still plans to acquire a fullback this offseason. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak routinely utilized a fullback in his offense in both New Orleans and San Francisco, his latest stops. With few enticing options remaining in free agency, perhaps the Seahawks will draft a hybrid player in the 2025 NFL draft to serve in that role.

Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo immediately comes to mind.

Skattebo was absolutely electric for a surging Sun Devils program that qualified for the College Football Playoff. The Rio Linda, California native rushed for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns via 293 carries. Skattebo was one of the most productive running backs in the nation.

Despite the elite production, Skattebo’s pre-draft evaluation hasn’t been straightforward. NFL scouts wonder if he possesses enough athleticism to play the running back position on a full-time basis at the next level. Skattebo was a limited participant at the NFL Combine, but did showcase athleticism by leaping a 39.5 inch vertical and 10-foot-3 broad jump at 5-foot-9 and 219 pounds. He ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at Pro Day.

New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is installing a run-heavy offense. Drafting Skattebo to be a versatile weapon would be worthwhile. Skattebo would be capable of lead-blocking for Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet on occasion, and he’d also be utilized as a backfield weapon who can run the football, catch passes, and play in pass protection.
