The Seattle Seahawks arguably had the craziest offseason of any team in the NFL. Sweeping change was initiated by GM John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald. At the forefront of the offseason was the decision to trade Geno Smith and DK Metcalf. They were essentially replaced by Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp. Elsewhere, offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak was hired to replace Ryan Grubb.
The Seahawks also brought in a veteran pass rusher in DeMarcus Lawrence, and also acquired two additional quarterbacks in Drew Lock (free agency) and Jalen Milroe (draft).
Pro Football Focus recently assigned letter grades to all 32 teams for their offseason doings. Despite the Seahawks’ offseason being a little chaotic, PFF reflected on it fondly. The Seahawks earned a “B.”
“Hiring Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator was a good move, as his work in New Orleans under unideal circumstances was encouraging,” Trevor Sikkema wrote. “He fits right into a lot of the strengths of Seattle’s roster, especially with deploying a zone rushing attack.
“The Seahawks subbed in Sam Darnold for Geno Smith, which appears to be a net negative,” Sikkema continued. “They did well to swap their offensive weapons, switching D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. I also like their defensive additions of DeMarcus Lawrence and Nick Emmanwori.”
The Seahawks hope all their offseason changes will lead to winning the NFC West in 2025.
