Salah’s comments ‘a disgrace’ and ‘choreographed’ – Carragher

Legendary Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher had this to say when discussing Mohamed Salah on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football:

“I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game. Some people have painted it as an emotional outburst. I don’t think it was.

“I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he’s done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed with him and his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position.

“He did that 12 months ago and I called him out about it. He played on the heartstrings of Liverpool supporters. Liverpool were top of league, he’d just scored the winning goal at Southampton and that was time to come out and put pressure on the Liverpool ownership.

“For the rest of the season you had banners in the crowd saying ‘Give Mo his dough’.

“He’s chosen this weekend to do this now and has waited for a bad result for Liverpool, when the supporters and everyone involved in club feels like they are in the gutter. He’s chose that time to go for the manager and maybe he’s trying to to get him sacked.

“That’s the way I felt about it.

“The ‘thrown under the bus’ line stands out to me. He’s tried to do that to the club twice in the last 12 months.

“He’s going after owners initially who have paid him hundreds of thousands of pounds over the last six years and complained he’s not got a huge contract at the age of 32 when they’re more than entitled to do that.

“With the manager right now, he should be trying to do as much as possible to get the club out of their worst run since the 1950s and hasn’t done that.

“I want to remind Salah and his agent that before he came to Liverpool he was known as the guy who failed at Chelsea. He had never won a major trophy.

“He is also the greatest player his country has ever had. Egypt in Afcon are the most successful nation but Salah has never won Afcon.

“This is not me trying to put Salah down – he is one of best players in the world.

“But it tells Salah and his agent it is not about an individual. He wasn’t a big star before he came to Liverpool and he has not won anything with Egypt.

“You need help from team-mates, managers and fans. It is really important he remembers that.

“In the mixed zone, all he’s about is me, me, me.”
