The Seattle Seahawks will open the preseason against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday evening. Week 1 of the preseason represents the Seahawks’ first opportunity of training camp to compete versus another team. They’ll participate in joint practices with the Green Bay Packers later this month.
We’ve identified some Seahawks players on defense worth watching closely versus the Raiders in Week 1 of the preseason.
S Nick Emmanwori
There’s no player who’s garnered more buzz at Seahawks training camp than rookie safety Nick Emmanwori. Head coach Mike Macdonald has confirmed the rookies will play Thursday evening versus the Raiders. Emmanwori has been a difference-maker at practice, and it’ll be worth monitoring if that momentum carries over to a live-action game.
DE Jared Ivey
Defensive end Jared Ivey is the most recognizable name among the Seahawks’ rookie undrafted free agents. The former Ole Miss standout has been predicted by many outlets to make Seattle’s 53-man roster, but Macdonald’s defense is deep at the position. Ivey needs to stand out during the preseason to give himself a chance.
CB Nehemiah Pritchett
Cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett struggled when thrown into the fire last season. The sophomore sixth-round selection isn’t guaranteed to make the 53-man roster. Pritchett needs to take advantage of his opportunities in the preseason, and indications are he’ll play extensively.
LB D’Eryk Jackson
The depth behind starting linebackers Ernest Jones IV and Tyrice Knight is questionable. Rookie undrafted free agent D’Eryk Jackson arrived in Seattle with a little hype. Jackson has an opportunity to play himself into a rotational role on defense and special teams.
