New England Patriots safety Jaylinn Hawkins’ future with the team remains up in the air, but his feelings regarding quarterback Drake Maye have not changed.
When asked about Maye, the pending free agent defender gave a glowing review of the 23-year-old quarterback.

“He is a true leader. You can see it. He walks in with an attitude, real confident,” Hawkins said on Outta Pocket with RGIII. “And then he just goes out there and just balls. Just plays and plays his game. I feel like he’s not really worried about what everybody else thinks of him. He’s really comfortable. The thing is whenever adversity strikes, you can see him persevering, like you can see that he got that look. And obviously, he’s a vocal leader. All-around, man, he’s a great player.”
Maye threw for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions in a year where he led the NFL with a 72 percent completion percentage. With Maye under center, the Patriots had a tremendous 2025 season that led to a 14-3 finish and a Super Bowl berth.
The Year 2 leap was everything the Patriots hoped it would be for Maye. If anyone would know about that growth, it would be Hawkins, who has had a front row seat to it since the team drafted him with the No. 3 overall pick in 2024.
