Nebraska soccer (5-0-3) commenced Big Ten play on Thursday night by welcoming Minnesota (4-2-1) to Hibner Stadium, where the Golden Gophers nearly delivered the Huskers’ first loss. But despite trailing with time winding down, Nebraska rallied, scoring two goals in the final seven minutes to tie.
Minnesota struck right out of the gate, going up 1-0 within the opening minute. The Golden Gophers scored again halfway through the first, putting Nebraska in its biggest deficit of the season.
The Huskers then completely shut down Minnesota in the second half, allowing zero shots, helping them stay within striking distance of the lead. Nebraska did struggle to get points on the board until the final seven minutes.
Reagan Raabe and Ella Rudney scored a goal on the night within the span of five minutes of each other. Raabe struck first, getting the Huskers on the board with an assist from Rudney, who then shot the equalizer after getting a pass from Sadie Waite.
Nebraska fired 17 shots on the night with seven on goal and held Minnesota to just eight shots with four on goal. Raabe and Rudney combined for 10 shots in the tie, while Ellie Felt and Charlie Wistrom each fired two shots. Cece Villa secured two saves in the tie.
The Huskers hit the road for their next two matches, heading to Penn State and Ohio State. Nebraska first travels to face the Nittany Lions on Thursday night. The match is set for 5 p.m. (CT) on Big Ten Network.
