    • Louisville basketball freshman point guard Mikel Brown Jr. will play for the United States at the 2025 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup in Switzerland.
    • Brown is no stranger to the international stage. Last year, he was part of Team USA’s run to a gold medal at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup in Argentina.

Louisville basketball freshman Mikel Brown Jr. will represent the United States at the 2025 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup in Switzerland.

Brown, a 6-foot-3 point guard from DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, was one of 12 players who earned a spot on the USA Basketball roster from a field of 33 contenders after participating in a training camp that began June 14 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup runs June 28-July 6. The Americans’ group includes Australia, Cameroon and France.

Brown, who arrived at U of L in late May as the program’s 29th McDonald’s All-American, is no stranger to the international stage. He started all six games of Team USA’s run to a gold medal at the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup in Argentina and earned all-tournament honors after averaging 10.3 points, 5.2 assists and 3.3 rebounds across 25 minutes per contest.

Brown ranks among the top 10 players in the Class of 2025 on the 247Sports Composite. In February, ESPN had him as a lottery pick in its first mock 2026 NBA Draft.

The FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup began in 1979. Until 2007, it was held every four years. Now, it’s a biannual competition. The U.S. has won gold eight times, most recently in 2021, but failed to reach the podium in 2023.
