These days, Luka Doncic is getting ready to represent his native Slovenia in the upcoming EuroBasket tournament, which will start in late August. In the meantime, he will be eligible to sign a long-term contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, Aug. 2.
The initial thinking was that perhaps Doncic would wait until after EuroBasket to get down to business regarding a possible extension with the Lakers. But according to a recent report, Doncic may end up signing that extension very soon before he takes part in EuroBasket.
On social media, Doncic made it known that he will participate in a Jordan Brand promotional tour in the coming days, and on Aug. 3, he will be in Los Angeles.
If one connects the dots, one may assume that Doncic will be signing an extension this coming weekend.
The report from SportKlub claimed that the superstar had essentially all but agreed to a four-year extension. While the way for him to maximize his earnings would be to sign a shorter extension and then opt out in 2028 to then sign a supermax deal, a four-year deal right now would give him a bit more financial security in case of a major injury.
