Longhorns baseball remains No. 2 in latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll

    -

Friday night was a disaster for the Texas baseball team. Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth at (then) No. 4 Auburn, centerfielder Aiden Robbins let a ball get by him, handing the win to the Tigers. But Texas bounced back and took the final two games in the series matching two top five teams. It was enough to keep UT at No. 2 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The Longhorns still trail No. 1 UCLA in the ranking. The Bruins had a perfect week. Thanks to the series loss to Texas, Auburn dropped a spot to No. 5. Georgia Tech, who lost to the Tigers last week, remain at No. 3. Mississippi State rounds out the top five.

There are 12 SEC teams in the Top 25, almost exactly half of the teams ranked in the weekly poll. The ACC features five ranked teams. The Big Ten has three and the Big 12 has just two.

Texas will travel on Tuesday to Houston for a one-off game with the Cougars. Then the Longhorns host Red River rival Oklahoma at UFCU Disch-Falk Field over the weekend. The Sooners are ranked No. 9 in this week’s coaches poll and will serve as another test for coach Jim Schlossnagle’s team.
