KSR Today: The First Kentucky Football Scrimmage of Fall Camp

    -

Preseason football is officially here. In the NFL, it means we get to watch starters play a drive or two before passing the keys off to players fighting for a roster spot. In college football, it’s not as fun, but it still matters quite a bit. Kentucky will host its first meaningful scrimmage of the preseason this morning at Kroger Field.

College athletes are not afforded the luxury of a few preseason tune-ups. They gotta be ready to go right out of the gate. They don’t get to test themselves against another opponent, either. Today is the first of two closed-door scrimmages for Mark Stoops’ 2025 Kentucky football team at Kroger Field.

Two-thirds of football is blocking and tackling. Aside from the quarterbacks, these next two Saturdays are the only time this team will truly tackle all the way to the ground. One can only hope that they get plenty of good, clean reps in, all while staying healthy.

How will the running game look behind the new-look Big Blue Wall? Can the defense consistently fit the run? Will a star pass-catcher emerge?

Mark Stoops will take questions after the scrimmage at approximately 1 PM ET. The Kentucky head coach probably won’t divulge every detail, so we’ll share what we’re hearing from Kroger Field over on KSR Plus. Until then, enjoy a few more action shots from Kentucky Football Fall Camp.

If you scour certain corners of the internet, it would be easy to assume that morale is low across Big Blue Nation. There was plenty of morale at Kroger Field last night.

This year, Kentucky asked BBN to wait until a specific date and time to claim their tailgate spot. That date and time was this morning at 8 AM ET. Diehard Kentucky football fans weren’t going to wait until the sun rose to get the party started. Many fans spent the night tailgating for the tailgate set up. One friend of the program was chipping golf balls in the orange lot, while others set up camp at various sports around the stadium. Spending the night to get the perfect tailgate spot is dedication. That’s the kind of passion this Kentucky football program needs this fall at Kroger Field.

    Kentucky Launches New Revenue-Sharing Project

Collectives were all the rage of the NIL era. That lasted for about three seasons. The revenue-sharing era is here, so what is everyone going to do with collectives? They’re not going away entirely.

Kentucky launched BBN United as a way to bring all of the collective efforts in-house. It will operate similarly to NIL collectives, where members contribute to help the athletic department’s bottom line, all while receiving perks from the program. It takes more than a village to succeed in the SEC and this is one more way to help your Kentucky Wildcats.

    The Shedeur Sanders Show

The second night of NFL Preseason was a doozy. Nobody generates the takes quite like Coach Prime’s kid. Despite his slide in the NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders got the first preseason start for the Cleveland Browns. He looked like the playmaker who turned Colorado into must-watch TV. Sanders wasn’t perfect, but 14-23 for 138 yards and two touchdowns is a solid start. Surely these highlights won’t generate a media circus of hot takes, right?

Unfortunate Turn of Events in Atlanta

The Shedeur Sanders show was an uplifting story. We got the exact opposite in Atlanta. The preseason game between the Lions and Falcons was called off in the fourth quarter after Detroit cornerback Morice Norris suffered a neck injury. Players from both teams huddled and prayed as he was carted off the field in an ambulance. Fortunately, Dan Campbell had a positive update to share after the game. “He’s breathing, he’s talking, he’s got some movement, and now, they’re running more tests.”

New England Unveils Tom Brady Statue

The Patriots added some pageantry to their first preseason game. Tom Brady’s duties with Fox make it difficult to set aside a time for him to receive another honor at Gillette Stadium. That’s why the red carpet was rolled out for a hot day in August to unveil a new statue outside. After seeing some fails in recent years, this bust isn’t bad at all.

    The Reds are Free Falling

It was fun to see some meaningful Cincinnati Reds games in August. Those days may be done. It doesn’t help that the Brewers refuse to lose. It also doesn’t help when you walk a 9-hole batter with one out to give an inept offense a chance. That’s what they did on Friday night against the Pirates. Chase Burns had TEN strikeouts, but a triple in the bottom of the eighth scored two for Pittsburgh to give them a 3-2 lead for good. The Reds are running out of opportunities to make a late run.

Louisville City is Filling the Fam

It’s the biggest game of the year for Louisville City FC. At the top of the USL Eastern Conference standings, you’ll see Louisville City tied at 41 points with the Charleston Battery. The two teams face off tonight in the annual “Fill the Fam” game at Lynn Family Stadium. More than 12,000 tickets have already been sold. Secure your tickets before they’re all gone in what will be a spectacular night on the pitch.
