Khabib Nurmagomedov’s bank accounts frozen by Russia

    -

Khabib Nurmagomedov, the retired UFC legend, has reportedly had his bank accounts frozen by Russian tax authorities over significant tax debts.

The 35-year-old, who retired undefeated with a 29-0 record in October 2020 after a second-round submission win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, is alleged to owe over £2.4 million ($3 million) in taxes.

Reports suggest that the former UFC champion has diversified into various business ventures post-retirement.

However, these ventures appear to have been less successful than his fighting career, leading to his current financial predicament.

Adding to his troubles, police in Russia’s Dagestan region recently raided a fight club linked to his late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, as part of an investigation into suspected supporters of a terrorist cell.

Despite these controversies, rumours of Khabib’s potential return to the Octagon have persisted.

There were claims that he could make a comeback for UFC 300 after the sport’s top officials allegedly reached out.

However, Khabib has remained firm on his retirement.

“I told Ali [his manager], it doesn’t matter who calls you, but never call me about a fight,” he stated to MMA Junkie.

As Khabib navigates these financial and personal challenges, the MMA world watches closely, wondering if the undefeated champion might ever return to the ring.
