The progress surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive line will remain essential to the team’s long-term success. The ups and downs of the season’s first half have contributed to the 5-4 record.
“Well, that’s a question. In terms of – we still are in the process of finding out what we’re good at. We’ve always done a lot of different concepts. Whether it’s throwing formations at people, different motions, variety, I would say the same is true of scheme. “We’re a midzone team,” said offensive line coach Andy Heck during his press conference on September 25th. “We’re an inside zone team.” It might be that we’re best at one of those two things, but we’re going to have gap schemes. We’re going to have man schemes. We’re going to have specials, so I believe in that we will find out what we’re best at. From the line standpoint, from the runner standpoint, and what’s best for our team? Is it getting under center and rolling or is it RPO’S? We’ve kind of been a big RPO team through the years.”

The NFL’s best center, according to Pro Football Focus’ Midseason Report, is center Creed Humphrey with an 89.4 overall PFF grade. It is the second-best among any qualified lineman; he’s produced an 83.6-plus grade in both pass- and run-blocking.
Trey Smith’s back issues and Jawaan Taylor’s ankle are concerns as the season’s second half gets underway. The starting offensive line hasn’t spent much time together due to injuries and the absence of rookie left tackle Josh Simmons. The 2025 first-round pick is back in the fold this week with hopes of regaining the momentum he displayed in his first five games.
