Kansas City Chiefs DB coach Dave Merritt on Trent McDuffie’s role

    -

During his press conference on Wednesday, Kansas City Chiefs defensive backs coach Dave Merritt addressed the role of All-Pro Trent McDuffie heading into the 2025 season.

“Yeah, I mean, Trent (McDuffie) is still our number one at the outside position; I’m quite sure that Spags (Steve Spagnuolo) will put a little more emphasis on possibly trying to move Trent around if we can.” said Merritt, “But right now, Trent is our number one outside corner, and if we get to a point during the season where we can slide him in the inside, that’ll be great.”

The former Washington Huskies star was a first-team All-Pro in 2023 and a second-team selection in 2024. Since being selected No. 21 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, McDuffie has emerged as one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks.

The Chiefs added Kristian Fulton in free agency and drafted Nohl Williams to help solidify the cornerback position alongside returning Jaylen Watson and Nazeeh Johnson. The secondary will continue to make adjustments throughout the off-season workouts leading up to training camp.
