Jason Gillespie takes PCB to court over contract dispute

    -

Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie has taken legal action against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), alleging unpaid financial dues following his resignation in December 2024.

Gillespie claims the PCB owes him money for services rendered during his tenure, including bonuses for a Test series win over England and an ODI victory against Australia last year.

The board, however, has denied the claims, releasing a statement in turn accusing Gillespie of breaching contract terms by resigning without serving a mandatory four-month notice period.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues,

    Statement on PCB’s website.

As reported by sources, Gillespie said the PCB had not honoured written financial assurances.

He has referred the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), though it remains unclear whether the ICC has the jurisdiction to mediate the dispute.

The PCB issued a statement on Sunday rejecting Gillespie’s claims, describing his exit without the required notice as “a clear breach of contractual terms.” According to the board, it had responded to Gillespie’s communications, reiterating its stance and awaiting a reply from his representatives.

While the board has not confirmed whether it will seek compensation, officials have indicated that legal options remain open. PCB officials maintain that no outstanding payments are due to Gillespie.

The breakdown in the relationship reportedly began months before his resignation.

In October 2024, Gillespie was removed from the selection panel and said his role had been reduced to a “matchday strategist.”

He was not selected to coach Pakistan on the South Africa tour in November, with Aaqib Javed replacing him as interim coach.

Gillespie resigned the day after his assistant Tim Nielsen was informed his contract would not be renewed, calling the decision another attempt to undermine his authority.

The legal developments come a day after the PCB announced a search for a new head coach. Aaqib Javed, who oversaw a run of poor results during his interim stint, will not be retained.
