IHSAA volleyball: Carroll hosts Homestead in state’s first outdoor match
Fort Wayne Carroll hosted Homestead in the first outdoor volleyball match in state history Wednesday.

Congratulations to Guerin Catholic’s Emery Cardinal on being voted Player of the Week for August 16-23! The senior middle blocker recorded 50 kills on .414 hitting, eight blocks and two digs for the Golden Eagles, who started 5-0 start with a four-set win over New Palestine.
Here are this week’s top performers.
Emily Blevins, Westfield
The junior setter averaged 18 assists across six wins last week. Of her 106 total assists, 30 came in a five-set win over West Lafayette Harrison and another 14 came in a two-set win over Crown Point. Blevins rounded out her line with six aces (three vs. Bellmont) and 37 digs. Westfield is 9-0 with a match vs. Zionsville on Thursday.
Rachel Bonde, Trinity Lutheran
The defending Class A champions have six wins with notable triumphs over Lawrence North, Center Grove and Bloomington South. Bonde, a sophomore middle, has played a large role in those early successes. She picked up 67 kills, four aces, 10 blocks and three digs across five matches, highlighted by a 21-kill effort vs. Franklin and an 18-termination effort vs. Bloomington South.
Madison Brown, Noblesville
Brown cleared 3,000 career assists during the week, then likely set a single-match record Saturday at Guerin Catholic, registering 58 assists, 15 of which came in the fifth set. Brown finished the week with 185 assists, nine kills, nine aces, a block and 43 digs. She had 21 digs and 45 assists vs. Avon.
Brooklyn Carlton, Morristown
Carlton lifted Morristown to a pair of conference wins, totaling 22 kills on .267 hitting. She also tallied 13 digs, an ace, two blocks and two assists. The Yellow Jackets are 3-4 on the season.
Ellie Hepler, Warsaw
Hepler nearly led the Tigers to victory over Penn, registering 34 digs and only one error on 21 receptions in a five-set loss. She finished the week with 75 digs, seven assists and three aces.
Landree Johnson, Yorktown
The freshman setter helped the Tigers go the distance with Zionsville, Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran and Roncalli on Saturday, racking up at least 25 assists in all three matches. She recorded 160 assists in six matches, and rounded out her line with seven kills, 13 aces, a block and 26 digs.
Addy Marshall, Shelbyville
Marshall had 49 assists (9.8 per set) in a five-set loss to Connersville. She also had 19 digs, an ace and two kills. The junior setter registered six aces, 15 digs and 22 assists the next night against Speedway.
Maye McConnell, Hamilton Southeastern
The senior libero set a school-record with 36 digs in a four-set win over Brownsburg on Thursday. She also tallied seven assists, two aces and a termination for the Royals, who are 7-0 and ranked 14th nationally by MaxPreps.
Adrianna Rosebrock, Greenwood
The senior picked up 76 assists in eight sets (two matches). She had 30 in a 3-0 win over Whiteland and 46 in a five-set loss to Indian Creek. Rosebrock also had a kill and an ace between the two matches.
Libby Ryan, Evansville North
Ryan shined in her first full week of matches, totaling 69 kills and hitting well-above .300 in six outings. She put down five blocks, 18 digs and an assist for the Huskies, who are off to a 7-0 start.
Alexus Shepherd, Castle
Shepherd, a sophomore, had 58 assists in two matches, leading Castle to wins over Vincennes Lincoln and Evansville Reitz. She also recorded a kill, six aces, a block and eight digs.
Addi Shippy, Fort Wayne Carroll
Shippy, who cleared 200 career blocks at the Penn tournament two weeks ago, recorded six blocks in three matches last week, plus 15 kills, six blocks and a dig.
Ella Williams, Washington
Williams registered 18 kills, 19 digs and three aces in a five-set loss to South Knox, then registered 13 kills, five aces, and 27 digs in a five-set win over Princeton. She also tallied 13 digs and five aces against Mt. Vernon.
Laniah Wills, Lapel
The Butler basketball commit racked up 40 kills in three matches, highlighted by 17 on .483 hitting vs. Cowan. Wills also served up 10 aces in a win over Taylor, picked up four blocks and three digs.
Sophie Wischmeier, Brownstown Central
Wischmeier tallied 59 kills in six matches. She also put down three aces, five blocks (all solo), 30 digs (11 against Providence and Floyd Central) and an assist. The defending 2A state runner-up Braves are 7-1 on the season.
