    What we missed

Since my last article on the Hockey team the Ducks have taken to the ice for 7 ACHA games. Sadly I was only able to get my eyes on the 2 games against a D2 opponent, Washington, as all of the other games were not made available for streaming.

The results for the entire season can be found here

For added context though here is the result of each game with the opponents current record as well:

    • 3-1 Loss to D1 Colorado State 12-5-4

    • 4-1 Loss to D1 Colorado State 12-5-4

    • 10-2 Win vs D1 Oakland 3-16-2

    • 8-1 Win vs D1 Oakland 3-16-2

    • 8-2 Win vs D2 Washington 13-7-0

    • 5-2 Win vs D2 Washington 13-7-0

    • 5-0 Loss vs D1 Purdue Northwest 11-9-1

    • 5-4 Win vs D1 Illinois State 8-11-2

    • 2-1 Win vs D1 Roosevelt University 5-13-0

    • 3-0 Win vs D1 Waldorf University 11-9-1

    • 6-1 Loss vs D1 Waldorf University 11-9-1

That gives the Ducks themselves a record of 8-7-0 and puts them 2 wins away from getting 10 wins at the ACHA Division 1 level for the first time. The good news? This is almost the exact mid way point of the season meaning the Ducks have 13 more games left on the schedule to try and get to that milestone.

I’m really disappointed that I couldn’t get a stream for the wins against Illinois State and Waldorf as based purely on results those were the type of games the Ducks couldn’t win last year, that being games against peer teams.

It is also an encouraging sign to the Ducks to continue to show they are properly placed in Division 1 by soundly defeating teams at the bottom of Division 1 and Division 2. In games against D1 teams 4 or more games below .500 and the two games against D2 Washington the Ducks are 5-0-0 and have won those games on average 6.6-1.6.

    2 Wins over the Huskies

As far as the games I could actually watch it’s always fun to watch the Ducks dominate the Huskies no matter the sport.

In the first of the 2 games the Ducks won 8-2. Oregon lead for nearly 50 of the 60 minutes of the game thanks to a 1-0 goal from Zach Orwig 1/2 way through the first period.

And then the 3-0 goal on the power-play would be the eventual game winner for the Ducks.

The Huskies would never cut the deficit to less than 3 for the rest game meaning this game was never in much doubt. The Ducks also controlled the game from the stats that I track from charting but not to such a dominant degree I would expect a 6 goal victory.

    Shots: Oregon 31 – Washington 18: Oregon 63%

    HD Chances: Oregon 13 – Washington 7: Oregon 65%

    HD Chances 5 on 5: Oregon 11 – Washington 7: Oregon 61%

    Power-Play: 100% 1/1

    Penalty Kill: 67% 2/3

The lop-sided score was a result of 1 Oregon playing a good not great game by their standards combined with better talent on the Ducks side.

The Saturday game was the inaugural Teddy-Bear Toss game where fans in attendance had the chance to throw Teddy Bears onto the ice after the Ducks first goal in partnership with the Springfield Ronald McDonald House. The Ducks wouldn’t keep the crowd waiting long as 1:35 into the game Inde Abresch would score to give the Ducks an early 1-0 lead.

This game was not as comfortable for the Ducks as Washington was able to battle back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game late in the 2nd period. But shortly after tying the game the Ducks took back control of the game thanks to a goals from Noah Easterson and Jackson Henningsgard to restore the 2 goal lead before the 2nd intermission. From there the game was incredibly low event in the 3rd period as I didn’t register a single high danger chance for either side in the final 20 minutes. Perfect for a team defending a lead.

Sadly due to the high volume of attendees for the game against a pacific northwest rival and the charitable interaction this game had the stream was inconsistent throughout the 2nd and I lost enough chunks of ice-time were my stats from charting would not be representative of the game.

    Up Next

This weekend the Ducks will travel to Sin City to take on the defending ACHA Division 1 Champions of UNLV for by far their most difficult opponent left on the schedule. The Rebels are first in the WCHL conference, 2nd in that conference are the Rams of Colorado State whom the Ducks lost 3-1 and 4-1 to earlier this season. That will conclude the 2025 portion of the Ducks schedule. In the new year the Ducks will be back at the Rink Exchange the weekend of January 9th for their next home games against San Diego State and then the following weekend January 16th it’s back to Bend for the Bend outdoor classic against Alabama.

    As always Sco Ducks!
