Jeff Ulbrich won’t face discipline for son’s prank call on Shedeur Sanders during draft
We finally know who prank called Colorado Shedeur Sanders during the 2025 NFL draft and it’s probably the last thing Atlanta Falcons fans want to hear.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son, Jax, reportedly stole Sanders’ number from his father’s iPad before impersonating an NFL general manager in a cruel draft day joke.
While Ulbrich’s son apologized for the prank call, those around the NFL are wondering if the Falcons defensive coordinator could face discipline for his role in the fiasco.
Report: Jeff Ulrbrich won’t be disciplined by Falcons
According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the team is not expected to take any action against Ulbrich for his role in the Sanders prank. It obviously doesn’t look good that Ulbrich let his son get a hold of the number, but it’s hard to imagine he had any other involvement.
It’s not a great look for the Falcons either way, and they better hope the NFL doesn’t take action of their own. The team already traded away next year’s first- and fifth-round picks during the draft. While Atlanta won’t be punishing Ulbrich, the team did put out a press release on Sunday, explaining what happened.
Falcons release statement on Ulbrich-Sanders incident
“Jeff Ulbrich was unaware of the data exposure or any facets of the prank and was made aware of the above only after the fact.” the team said in a statement. “The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize to, as well as facilitate an apology directly from Jax to the Sanders family.”
Unfortunately, this event will somewhat overshadow one of Atlanta’s most exciting draft classes in recent memory. The team landed Georgia star Jalon Walker and Tennessee edge rusher James Pearce Jr. in Round 1 before stealing Notre Dame’s Xavier Watts in the third round.
Ulbrich’s son, Jax, also released a statement on the incident in which he apologizes and asks Sanders for forgiveness.
Jax Ulbrich’s apology to Shedeur Sanders
“On Friday night I made a tremendous mistake. Sheduer, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful,” wrote Ulbrich. “I’m so sorry I took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish.I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
