Despite winning 19 games over the previous two seasons, the Seattle Seahawks missed the postseason in both 2023 and 2024. Before that, they suffered two wild-card round defeats at the hands of division rivals, losing to the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, and San Francisco 49ers in 2022. The Seahawks will enter 2025 attempting to put those disappointments behind them.
The Seahawks reported to training camp earlier this week. ESPN previewed camp by putting forth projections for all 32 teams. Achieving postseason success is the storyline to monitor in Seattle in 2025, per reporter Brady Henderson.
“The Seahawks haven’t advanced past the divisional round of the playoffs in a decade, and if they’re going to play well into January, Mike Macdonald’s defense probably will have to lead the way,” Henderson wrote. “It’s a different story for the offense, which underwent a transformation over the offseason in both scheme and personnel.”
The offense underwent a major overhaul this offseason. It began with the appointment of Klint Kubiak, who replaced Ryan Grubb as offensive coordinator. Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp are tasked with replacing mainstays Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett.
“The defense, particularly with the addition of playmaking safety Nick Emmanwori in the second round, seems like much more of a sure thing,” Henderson concludes.
Macdonald’s defense projects as a top-10 unit. The offense is far more difficult to predict, given all the change. If Seattle is to end their decade-long division-round drought, Kubiak’s offense must be significantly more productive than expected in 2025.
