Deontay Wilder has spoken out on his old foe Tyson Fury making his latest return to the ring.
Wilder and Fury were involved in an epic trilogy spanning over the course of three years, with the first bout ending in a controversial split decision draw as ‘The Bronze Bomber’ kept hold of his WBC heavyweight title.
Fury was victorious in the next two encounters though, stopping Wilder in each of those bouts to claim bragging rights over his rival, winning and then defending the WBC belt in the process.
Following their third clash, ‘The Gypsy King’ went on to face Oleksandr Usyk twice in 2024, but was beaten on both occasions, leading to his retirement from the sport in January 2025.
Now 12 months on, Fury will make his comeback after it was officially confirmed this week he will take on Arslanbek Makhmudov in the UK on April 11, with the event broadcast live on Netflix and the former champion believes he will be back on top of the heavyweight division before the end of the year.
“I’m coming for you. Whoever you are on my return as king, you will be overthrown, 100%. There is no doubt in my mind that I can’t reach the top again, 100% straight to the top.
Within this year I’ll be back on top of heavyweight boxing, you better believe that. The Gypsy King is back. Anyone can get it.”
It seems that Wilder isn’t that enthralled by Fury’s return though, as he explained to Fight Hub TV.
“It’s nothing new. He always retire and come back, retire and come back, so it’s the same old thing.”
‘The Gypsy King’ has had several retirements in the past, dating back to as early as 2013, but now at the age of 37, it seems this could be his last run in boxing.
As for Wilder, he will return to action when he takes on another former Fury opponent in Derek Chisora, with the pair colliding at The O2 Arena in London on April 4.
