Deion Sanders Jr. Faces Major Hurdle in NFL Expansion Despite Backing from Roger Goodell originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Deion Sanders Jr., also known as Bucky, may have earned rare approval from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to expand his “Well Off Media” platform into NFL territory, but his path is far from clear.
During a recent appearance on “The Morning Run,” Sanders Jr. revealed both the opportunity and the setback: “We supposed to expand into the NFL teams. … Roger Goodell gave me his blessings.”
That green light from the league office would be a dream scenario for most independent creators, especially given the NFL’s traditionally tight control over in-house media. However, Sanders Jr. was quick to clarify that Goodell’s blessing isn’t enough.
“It’s a battle. We’re not in the position we thought we were going to be,” he said, noting that he still needs clearance from individual NFL teams to film on-site during the 2025 season.
Well Off Media, which gained traction documenting the Sanders family’s rise at Jackson State and Colorado, now stands on the verge of a major breakthrough. With Shedeur Sanders vying for the starting quarterback job with the Cleveland Browns and Shilo Sanders joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent, Sanders Jr. has strong family connections across the league.
Bucky’s plan includes following Shedeur at Browns training camp, traveling to Tampa to cover Shilo and even visiting the Tennessee Titans to film with Cam Ward and the Jacksonville Jaguars to reconnect with Travis Hunter. But despite that ambitious vision, team-by-team approval remains the biggest hurdle.
A recently deleted YouTube video on the Well Off Media channel, which detailed Goodell’s involvement, raised eyebrows. While it’s unclear why the video was removed, some speculate the league may have wanted the development kept quiet until logistics were finalized.
Regardless, the opportunity is massive. If Sanders Jr. can secure access, his content could reshape how fans view the NFL’s next generation, especially through the lens of Shedeur’s rising profile in Cleveland. Even Shilo, largely under the radar compared to his younger brother, stands to benefit from the behind-the-scenes exposure.
But until NFL teams sign off, Sanders Jr.’s next move remains stuck in neutral, despite having the most powerful man in football in his corner.
