Barcelona defender Mapi León has received a two-match suspension in Liga F after an incident involving Espanyol’s Daniela Caracas during a league match in February, league officials confirmed.
León, 28, was accused of “violating the privacy” of Caracas during Espanyol’s defence of a corner on 10 February, with footage appearing to show contact near the Colombia international’s groin area.
The clip circulated widely on social media, prompting public criticism from Espanyol, who issued a statement expressing “total discontent and condemnation.”
Liga F confirmed the sanction, stating León was suspended “due to the incident with Daniela Caracas.” No further comment was issued by the league.
León, capped 54 times by Spain, has denied the allegation, saying there was “no contact with her private parts” and insisting the act was not intentional.
“At no time did I, nor was it my intention, infringe upon the intimacy of my fellow professional Daniela Caracas,” she said in a statement.
Barcelona appealed the decision but were unsuccessful. León served the first game of her ban during last weekend’s match against Atletico Madrid and will also miss the upcoming fixture against Real Madrid.
Barcelona currently lead Liga F by four points over Real Madrid with five matches remaining in the season.
