Auburn football’s plan at quarterback for the 2026 season may have gotten clearer as a member of the 2025 room plans to enter the transfer portal.
Hayes Fawcett of On3 reports that Ashton Daniels plans to enter the transfer portal once the window opens in January with one season of eligibility remaining. Daniels started in three of Auburn’s final four games of the season, sitting out the Tigers’ win over Mercer in November in an effort to preserve his redshirt status and to give him another season of eligibility.

In four games this season, Daniels passed for 797 yards and three touchdowns. The Tigers fell in all three of his starts, however, he fueled Auburn’s second-half comeback efforts against Arkansas on Oct. 25, as he led the Tigers to a 33-24 win by completing 6-of-8 passes for 77 yards, and added 35 yards on the ground.
Now that Daniels has revealed his plans for the 2026 season, Auburn may turn to redshirt freshman Deuce Knight to lead the offense next season, or may dip into the transfer portal to find an older, more developed quarterback for Knight to learn under. Several notable quarterbacks that have publically announced their plans to enter the transfer portal include Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby, Florida’s DJ Lagway, Georgia Tech’s Aaron Philo, and Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola.
