Liverpool were finally able to break the surface and come up for air with a much needed victory at West Ham on Sunday. Not only did they secure all three points, struggling striker Alexander Isak finally opened his Liverpool account by scoring at the hour mark to put the Reds officially in the lead.
âIâm aware that itâs been a long time coming,â Isak told Sky Sports post-match.

âIâve been trying to get back to my best form and Iâm still on the way. But Iâm happy to have that goal.
âItâs a mix [of feelings], of course. The most important [and] best feeling today is that we won the game, thatâs the best way to get a good spirit within the group, and thatâs helpful for the individual as well.
âBut, of course Iâm a striker, so scoring goals will always help me.â
Isak joined the Reds on deadline day and hasnât exactly had an easy journey to this moment. From not training with a club all summer, missing pre-season, and then not being entirely match fit, the striker has looked almost bereft whenever he has been able to make it to the pitch. There is very little time to rest and reflect on that, though, as we enter the busy December period of matches with Sunderland on Wednesday and Leeds the following weekend.

âI think we have to use this win in a good way,â continued Isak.
âBut also be humble, because weâve had a tough time. One win doesnât necessarily mean that weâre back, we have to stay focused and keep working hard to keep this momentum.â
Hopefully the result showed coach Arne Slot more positives than negatives with the changes he had made to get to that point, including Joe Gomez featuring in the right back role, and the whole squad are able to keep these positives rolling into Wednesday.
