After late drama, Utah corner Smith Snowden commits to Michigan

For the most part, Michigan football has managed to secure those it’s wanted to get out of the transfer portal. But, as of late, it’s been a little more hit-or-miss.

The Wolverines got some big names, such as Utah defensive end John Henry Daley, Texas wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, and Utah wideout JJ Buchanan. But after missing out on linebackers Rasheem Biles and Cade Uluave, there’s been some consternation among the fanbase.

And it wasn’t made much easier by the wandering eye of one of the maize and blue’s top targets.

Again, another Utah transfer, it was thought that standout cornerback Smith Snowden would be a shoo-in to follow his former head coach to Ann Arbor. However, he took visits to Notre Dame and Oregon, casting doubt on whether or not he could do so. What’s more, given his standing academically, there had been some concerns outside of the program that he wouldn’t be admitted, as Michigan wants at least 60 credits to be taken on campus in order to receive a degree.

However, those doubts were laid to rest on Tuesday, as Snowden finally pulled the trigger and is a Wolverine.

Snowden is the fifth-rated available defensive back in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports. He will join a room with incumbent starters Zeke Berry and Jyaire Hill, as well as other talent, including second-year player Shamari Earls.
