The ACC split on four games Sunday, with Wake Forest beating UMass Lowell 109-75 and Virginia Tech taking care of Charlotte, 84-76. As for the losses, Notre Dame lost to Ohio State 64-63 while Miami fell to Florida 82-68.
Miami is vastly improved from last year’s disaster but they couldn’t stand up to Florida’s front line. Alex Condon scored 19 and shot 75%. Reuben Chinyelu had 16 points and shot 70%.

On Miami’s side, center Ernest Udeh had 3 points. Malik Reneau had 22 points but shot just 8-23, which is a good step down from what Condon and Chineylu did.
Shelton Henderson, the powerful freshman, got 7 points.
In short, Florida just squeezed Miami like one of those Everglades pythons.
It’s a good learning experience, but the ‘Canes will need better inside talent down the road.
Notre Dame was ahead with 13 seconds to play when 7-0 Christoph Tilly drove the lane with 13 seconds left to put the Buckeyes up by one.
The good news is that the Irish were in position to win, and that wasn’t nearly as common last season, and Notre Dame was pretty dominant inside. The Irish also forced Ohio State into 38% shooting overall.

Notre Dame was in great shape despite Markus Burton only shooting 3-14 and that would never have happened last year.
Carson Towt continues to rebound well with 12.
Wake Forest struggled in the first half against UMass Lowell before pulling away to a 48-38 halftime lead and then blowing the River Hawks out in the second.
Juke Harris continued to play well with 21 points on 8-14/1-5. Omaha Biliew had one of his better games for Wake Forest with 13 on 4-4/3-3 shooting. Wake had 14 steals and when you combine that with 13 threes to 6 for UMass Lowell, that’s a solid advantage.
Finally, Virginia Tech took care of Charlotte but it was a one-point game with 9:31 left and a two-point game with 3:57 to play. Nice to see: when Charlotte cut the lead to 68-66, former Blue Devil Jaden Schutt made a key three. He finished with 12 points but also picked up four fouls.

Jailen Bedford finished with 21 while Tobi Lawal had 18.
It wasn’t a beautiful game or anything, but winning tough games is a key to maturing and Charlotte gave the Hokies a better game than we expected.
