Big changes are coming to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, and the University of Florida is finally putting a firm timeline on the most significant renovation project in the venue’s nearly century-long history.
According to the planning documents, the University Athletic Association is moving forward with a $398.5 million renovation to the Swamp, a multi-phase project set to begin in April 2027 and finish by February 2030.
The ambitious overhaul is designed to preserve the Swamp’s tradition and atmosphere while completely modernizing its infrastructure, amenities and fan experience.
The renovation will include wider concourses, improved ingress and egress, new premium seating areas, enhanced concession spaces and updated scoreboard and sound systems according to the University’s planning documents.
Accessibility is also a major focus, with plans to add ADA-compliant seating, handrails and aisle widening throughout the venue.
Capacity is expected to remain relatively stable during the initial construction phases in 2027 and 2028, but according to Swamp247, documents show it will temporarily decrease to 80,895 in 2029 before rebounding to 83,096—or 84,339 including standing-room-only sections—upon completion in 2030.
A public meeting to discuss final design selections is scheduled for Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. ET, as the UAA finalizes the vision for what will be the first major stadium overhaul since 2003.
Crawford Architects LLC has been selected as the project’s architect, while Brasfield & Gorrie LLC will serve as the contractor overseeing construction.
