On World Cancer Day, Emraan Hashmi recalled his son’s battle with cancer. He stressed on how people should get screened regularly.
On World Cancer Day, February 4, Emraan Hashmi took to his social media account to talk about how his family was affected when his son, Ayaan, was diagnosed with cancer. The actor spoke about how the family battled it out together and he also lauded the government initiatives which have made cancer treatment accessible and affordable for people.
Taking to his Instagram, Emraan Hashmi talked about how early detection of cancer is crucial and how this step is helpful. He urged people to get screened regularly. He said, “When my son Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer, our world turned upside down, but through his strength and the incredible support we received, we discovered how crucial early detection and timely treatment are in this battle.”

Emraan continued, “As parents, we know that the journey can be overwhelming, but initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and PM-JAY are changing the game. These programs are making cancer treatment more accessible and affordable for millions of families across India, easing the financial burden and giving hope. Today on World Cancer Day, I urge you all to get screened regularly, raise awareness, and ensure that everyone, no matter their background, gets the care they deserve. Let’s keep fighting together because every life matters.”
The actor’s son, Ayaan, was diagnosed with cancer in January 2014. In January 2019, he was declared cancer-free. Government initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and PM-JAY have made cancer treatment affordable.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme was introduced to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The scheme provides care at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels. Under this scheme, the PM-JAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) is the largest health assurance scheme. It provides a health cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year. This scheme provides cashless access to health care services and it covers up to 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days post-hospitalization expenses as well. It covers more than 1000 procedures and covers expenses like medical examination, medical implantation services, diagnostic investigations, and accommodation benefits to name a few.
