Fans flooded social media after Carrey’s February 26, 2026, César Awards appearance, fixating on his fuller face, smooth skin, and long dark hair.
Carrey wore a sleek all-black tuxedo with a bowtie and sported shoulder-length dark hair, a stark change from his shorter style at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame event. His face appeared fuller to observers, prompting viral discussions on social media about possible surgery or aging effects.
One viewer questioned, “Is he wearing a mask? Look at his eyes,” while another remarked, “Must have had a lot of work done to his face. Looks very different.” Comparisons escalated with comments like “Oh, that plastic surgery and call Jenner’s,” and “Dude got the same plastic surgeon as Tom [Cruise].” Some defended him, insisting, “I know no conspiracy theorist, that’s Jim Carrey.”
Speculation spiralled quickly from there. The most viral theory claims he was “cloned” or replaced by a body double years ago, with some linking the supposed switch to personal upheavals such as the 2015 death of his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, which led to wrongful-death lawsuits and intense media scrutiny, or his gradual step back from Hollywood around 2017.
Those pushing the theory point to perceived changes in his appearance, from eye colour that seems to shift from brown to greener or bluer in certain clips, to differences in his nose, jawline, teeth and overall build, as supposed “evidence.”
Pop culture ‘investigator’ Sloan Hooks also put out a full video in which he is seen questioning Carrey’s new look and his enthusiasm for the event, which is quite unlike his public persona so far.
What Has Jim Carrey Done To His Face?
There have been speculations in the past, too. Dr. Millicent Rovelo had noted in 2025 on Carrey’s look in a conversation with Radaronline.com, “It is clear that he has had an upper blepharoplasty,” referring to eyelid surgery. “In the 2024 photos, he has a lot of excess skin of his upper eyelids hanging over the outer edges of the eyes. In the most recent video of him, you can see that the excess skin is removed, and that makes his eyes appear larger and rounder.”
As for the rest of Carrey’s face, she observes, “He does not appear to have had additional surgical procedures,” but believes he’s had “significant” Botox injections.
