While India already boasts several tunnel-style aquariums, this Indian city is gearing up to unveil the country’s largest yet – a sprawling, 4,000-square-metre immersive marine experience that promises to let visitors explore marine life like never before.

Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park is all set to get a Rs 50 crore state-of-the-art aquarium that will feature a stunning tunnel-style walk-through experience, promising visitors a surreal experience of strolling beneath a dome of swimming marine life.

Spanning 4,000 square metres, this walk-through tunnel lets guests feel like they’re inside the ocean, surrounded by gliding sharks, colourful coral fish, and deep-sea wonders.

While Hyderabad already hosts aquarium exhibits, none come close to this scale or technological ambition. What sets this project apart is its global collaboration: marine experts from Singapore and Australia are teaming up with Indian designers and engineers to create a climate-controlled, sustainable, and immersive space. The design borrows cues from top-tier marine centres like Ahmedabad’s Science City and Kerala’s Marine World.

Once approved by the Central Zoo Authority, the project is expected to be completed by 2026 under a public-private partnership. As reported by The Times of India, this aquarium is envisioned as a “living classroom” with thematic zones mimicking rivers, lakes, coral reefs, and deep-sea biomes. Visitors can expect digital guides, AR experiences, and curated tours, all meant to educate students and promote conservation. Species from Asia, Africa, and the Americas – including Amazonian arowanas, African cichlids, and rare deep-sea creatures – will be a part of this aquarium.

Hyderabad is fast emerging as one of India’s most sought-after cities, seamlessly blending heritage with innovation. With a booming tech industry hosting global giants like Amazon and Microsoft, robust infrastructure upgrades, and thriving sectors like biotech, pharma, and startups, the city is positioning itself as a major economic and innovation hub with a cosmopolitan crowd. Affordable living, high-quality education, sustainable development, and a rich cultural fabric have made Hyderabad a dynamic urban powerhouse that’s redefining modern Indian growth.
