When it comes to first impressions, walk into a room and what’s the first thing that catches your eye?
Chances are, no matter the style or decor, the first thing you’ll focus on are the windows… especially if you’re lucky enough to have a room with a view and light streaming through.
But even if the outlook isn’t picture-perfect, what frames your aperture will bring it to life with the vision of luxe – namely an ace pair of curtains, a bold blind, or both.
“From confident colour choices to heritage-inspired luxury, the right style and furnishings shape the mood and character of a home,” highlights Chloe Dacosta, design manager at Blinds 2go and Curtains 2go.
“And can ultimately make or break a room.”
Moreover, she says with interiors shifting away from safe minimalism towards richer, more personal design stories, she says there’s a swing towards colour, pattern and texture this summer.
Here, Dacosta shares some key styles to enhance your focal point….
Tonal layering
“Layering is one of the most effective ways to create depth and give your space a put-together yet lived-in feel, without being too busy,” suggests Dacosta.
Think different textures, furnishings, and heights to add visual interest; and by using various tones of the same colour, she says it helps everything feel cohesive. “It’s about subtle contrast rather than bold clashes.”
Once you’ve nailed the decor, it’s all about layering the window dressing by pairing blinds and curtains in different shades and materials, “creating a focal point which is both functional and stylish.
“Layering also gives you the added freedom to let light in when you want it… and soften it in times when you don’t,” she adds.
And just in case you didn’t get the memo, sage green is huge this summer. As Dacosta puts it: “Earthy greens are a great choice, and layering similar tones creates a calm, nature-inspired scheme for your windows.”
Blue as a statement colour
As the saying goes, from ‘runway to room’, what’s hot in high fashion filters into interiors… and blue is already shaping up to be a key colour this summer, and beyond.
“We’re seeing our customers move away from playing it safe and instead embracing deeper, more saturated blues that add confidence and depth to their window decor,” notes Dacosta.
“This is something I expect to continue into next season.”
She continues: “With wellbeing and mindfulness at the forefront of many interior decisions; and with its strong links to peaceful, natural elements like the sky and ocean, this shade subconsciously signals serenity.”
Not to mention Netflix and the Bridgerton effect, pale powder blue is a Regency-era favourite that’s firmly back in the spotlight.
1920s influence and neo-deco luxury
Another trend reflecting the glamour and elegance of yesteryear, “neo-deco styling is making a strong return, referencing the glamour of the 1920s in a more modern and updated way,” highlights Dacosta.
“Gold tones, geometric details, and tactile fabrics are key to this look, creating a sense of quiet opulence rather than overt glamour.”
She suggests using softer shades to balance richer accents, while statement accessories such as gold scatter cushions and decorative lamps introduce warmth and texture.
“This style is all about thoughtful luxury… small details that help make a room feel elevated.”
Coffee bean shades are the new neutral
With coffee-inspired neutrals signalling a fresh approach to a pared-back aesthetic, quiet luxury or country chic, the colour doesn’t overwhelm and blends in beautifully.
“These shades feel comforting, grounding and are far more versatile,” suggests Dacosta. “And work beautifully with both bold colour and more minimalist options too.
“Plus, they respond wonderfully to natural light, creating warmth rather than dullness.”
From soft cappuccino, to deeper coffee bean tones, she says curtains and blinds in these hues act as a modern neutral base, “bringing depth and warmth that pairs effortlessly with wood, metal and layered textiles.”
